Cultural Capital at All Saints
What does Cultural Capital mean at All Saints Catholic Primary School?
At our role at All Saints is to provide all children with cultural capital: Cultural capital is the accumulation of knowledge, behaviours, and skills that a child can draw upon and which demonstrates their cultural awareness, knowledge and competence; it is one of the key ingredients a pupil will draw upon to be successful in society, their career and the world of work.
Our aim is for our children to join us on a learning journey, which will equip them for their future. We want our children to leave us at Year 6 with a range of skills, deep knowledge, a love of learning and ambition.
As part of our Catholic Mission we take great responsibility in providing opportunities for children to go outside of their comfort zone. Following in Jesus’ footsteps, we relate to the Scripture from Matthew’s Gospel of Jesus and Peter walking on water.
Pupils at All Saints School are encouraged to make positive and courageous choices to open up the world, challenging themselves by stepping outside their comfort zone in order to flourish and ‘live life in all its fullness’.
We educate our children’s hearts, bodies and souls – not just their minds, and always aiming to celebrate and embrace the different ‘something’.
At the centre of our school life is the personal development of every single one of our children and the quality of the experiences we provide is designed to meet the needs of all our children. Our staff nurture our children and share a conviction that there is something wonderful in everybody at school. We seek to find out what that is and help is flourish.
Each day during Celebration of the Word is to provide time for our children to be still, be silent, be curious, reflect and to wonder.
The character development of our children empowers them to be confident in their self-motivation for being young leaders and global citizens for the future.
Children benefit from a flexible curriculum that builds on what they understand and know already. We believe that exposure, not only to culture but also to situations in which the children might not have previous experiences of, is of paramount importance to their ongoing successes.
Gradually widening children’s experiences as they progress through school is an important step in providing rich and engaging learning across the curriculum. We plan carefully for children to have rich and varied experiences in all year groups. These include trips out to appreciate the beauty of God’s world, visits to our church, other places of Worship and to places of interest such as museums and castles. They also include workshops, outdoor learning and other skills that can be developed on our school site using skills and expertise of our own staff.
